To use, control or to be one with the energy of nature defines the type of powers one shall have.
Australis has those with powers greater than the normal resident. But unlike most lands of magic, three unique groups exist, each having their own belief and social interface.
Alchemists can be broken into subgroups of Wizards, Sorcerers, Witches, Mages, Spell Casters and the likes. This group has held influential positions in society and played key roles in battles and power. Not all are for hire, as some live in Alchemist communities, separated from the challenges of kingdoms and wars. Spells are created by mixing various items together which can include objects, verbal commands, and physical movements. The reaction of specific combinations leads to magic. Alchemist use natures powers to do their bidding.
Channels are unique and often dismissed as part of the insane or mentally challenged. They are often completely out of touch with society even while living within the system. Chatting with people that aren't there, collecting items normally discarded, and unsociable behavior causes them to be outcasts. However, Channels are at one with natural forces of energy that others cannot understand. Those few that get to know these individuals look it at as paranormal and spiritual acuteness.
E'rudites are few. Once they were the only magical force in the Age of the Notarians, but after the Alchemist and E'rudite War few of either existed. Alchemist eventually rose in numbers but the E'rudites did not. E'rudites control the natural forces of nature with their minds, such as gravity, light, time, space, etc.
E'rudites have disputed the validity of Alchemist for thousands of years, noting that Alchemy is dangerous, for anyone can learn such combinations to perform spells. Because of this, those without the discipline to understand the impact of such powers can wield it. Alchemist disagree with the self-righteous E'rudites and notes the years of training that it takes to properly perform any spell of significance.
